SUBSCRIBE NOWSetting Up Your First MongoDB Database
Starting your journey with NoSQL? The first step to building any application is setting up its foundation—the database. In this guide, we'll walk through the simple steps to create a database in MongoDB using the command line.
The 'use' Command
In MongoDB, creating a database is unique. You don't need a "create" command. Instead, you use the use command. If the database doesn't exist, MongoDB will create it for you the moment you save data into it!
Step-by-Step Implementation
To create or switch to a database, simply type the following in your MongoDB shell:
Once you run this, you'll be switched to my_new_database. Remember, it won't show up in your database list (show dbs) until you actually insert a document into a collection!
Why MongoDB?
MongoDB’s flexible approach allows developers to move faster without worrying about rigid schemas upfront. Mastering these basic commands is the first step toward building scalable, modern applications.
