Mastering UPI AutoPay: A Beginner's Guide

Managing monthly payments like Netflix subscriptions, loan EMIs, or Mutual Fund SIPs can be stressful if you have to do them manually every time. UPI AutoPay is a game-changer that automates these payments securely.

What is a UPI Mandate?

When you set up AutoPay, you create a UPI Mandate. This is simply an official "digital permission" you give to your bank to automatically deduct a specific amount on a specific date in the future. You only need to enter your UPI PIN once during the setup!

Automatic Debit Limits

The system is designed with safety limits:

• Subscriptions (Netflix, Spotify, etc.): Fully automatic up to ₹15,000.
• Financial Payments (EMI, SIP, Insurance): Fully automatic up to ₹1,00,000.

Note: Any amount above these limits will require your manual approval in the app each time.

How it Works for Different Services

1. Netflix & Subscriptions

The system sends you a notification 24 hours before the money is deducted. Payments usually happen during "non-peak" hours (late night or early morning) to ensure the highest success rate.

2. Loan EMIs

During setup, you define the fixed EMI amount and the end date of the loan. If your account balance is low, the system now has a Retry Rule (one main attempt plus three retries) to help you avoid late fees.

3. SIPs (Mutual Funds)

AutoPay is perfect for disciplined investing. It ensures your money is invested on your chosen date every month without you having to remember it.

Is UPI AutoPay Safe?

Absolutely! Here is why:

• Full Control: You can pause, modify, or cancel a mandate anytime from your UPI app.
• PIN Protected: No one can start an AutoPay without your secret UPI PIN.
• Fixed Rules: Companies can only deduct the exact amount and on the exact date you approved.
• Alerts: You get a notification before every single deduction.
