Scammers are getting smarter, often pretending to be Google Pay Customer Support to steal your hard-earned money. They sound professional and use "official" language, but they always leave clues. If you know these 10 warning signs, you will never fall for their tricks.
1. They Ask for Your UPI PIN
This is the biggest red flag! Google Pay will NEVER ask for your UPI PIN for any reason. No real support team needs your PIN to "fix" an account or "verify" your identity. If they ask for your PIN, hang up immediately.
2. They Ask for Your OTP
An OTP (One-Time Password) is like a key to your house. Scammers claim they need it to "unlock" your account. Real support will never ask you to share an OTP over the phone.
3. They Call You Out of Nowhere
Real Google Pay support only responds if you contact them first through the official app. If a random person calls you claiming to be from Google Pay, it is 100% a fake call.
4. Urgent & Fearful Warnings
Scam messages use fear to make you panic. They say things like "Your account will be blocked tonight" or "Act now or lose your money." Real messages from Google are always calm and never force you to act urgently.
5. Asking for Bank or Card Details
Scammers may ask for your full debit card number, expiry date, ATM PIN, or CVV. Real support teams already have access to necessary transaction info and will never ask for your sensitive card details.
Quick Safety Checklist
Official Support Only: Only reach support through Google Pay App > Settings > Help & Support.
No PIN for Refunds: You never need to enter a PIN or scan a QR code to receive money.
Check Sender Names: Real messages come from verified business IDs, not random 10-digit mobile numbers.
Never Click Unknown Links: Don't click links in SMS that claim to "fix KYC" or "update rewards."
đź’ˇ REMEMBER: Your UPI PIN is only for SENDING money. If someone asks for it, they are trying to TAKE your money!
