🔔 JOIN THE SAFETY SQUAD NOWReceiving Money on Google Pay? Watch Out for These Scams!
Receiving money on Google Pay should be simple and stress-free. However, scammers often target people who are expecting payments by creating confusion. If you follow a few basic rules, you can keep your account 100% safe. Here is everything you need to know.
The Golden Rule: NO PIN NEEDED TO RECEIVE
This is the most important rule of UPI: You never, ever need to enter your UPI PIN to receive money. If someone tells you to enter your PIN, scan a QR code, or share an OTP to "receive" money, they are trying to scam you. Money comes directly to your bank account without any action from your side.
1. QR Codes Are for SENDING Only
A QR code is a shortcut to the payment screen. When you scan a QR code and enter your PIN, you are sending money out of your account. Scammers will send you a QR code and say "Scan this to get your prize/payment"—this is a trap to drain your balance.
2. Beware of "Collect Requests"
A Collect Request is a notification asking you to pay someone. Scammers send these with notes like "You received ₹5000," but if you click "Approve" and enter your PIN, you are the one paying them. Always cancel unknown requests immediately.
3. Share Only Your Mobile Number or UPI ID
To get paid, all you need to give the sender is your mobile number or UPI ID. Never share your bank account details, card information, or screenshots of your Google Pay settings with strangers. Before the sender hits 'Pay', ask them to confirm they see your correct name on their screen.
How to Verify You've Received Money
Check Notifications: Google Pay will show a real-time notification when money arrives.
Bank SMS: Your bank will send an official SMS confirming the credit to your account.
Transaction History: Always check the 'Show transaction history' section in your app to see the sender's name and the exact amount received.
💡 PRO TIP: Keep your Google Pay app and phone software updated. Updates often include critical security patches that protect you from the latest scam techniques!
