Protect Your Money: Essential PhonePe Safety Guide

Using PhonePe is a quick and easy way to handle your daily expenses, but scammers are always looking for ways to trick you. In this guide, we break down the most common scams and how you can stay 100% safe.

1. The Fake Payment Request Scam

This is the most common trick. A scammer sends you a "Request" on PhonePe. They will tell you that if you click "Approve" and enter your UPI PIN, you will receive money. This is a lie!

The Golden Rule: You NEVER need to enter your UPI PIN to receive money. You only enter it when you are sending money out of your account.

2. Beware of Fake QR Codes

Scammers might send you a QR code on WhatsApp or Email, claiming it's a "Refund" or a "Prize" code. They ask you to scan it to get money. Don't do it! Scanning a QR code is used to make a payment, not receive one.

3. Fake Customer Support & Screen Sharing

Never trust a random caller pretending to be from PhonePe Support. They might ask you to install "Screen Sharing" apps like Anydesk or TeamViewer. These apps allow them to see your phone screen and steal your bank details in real-time.

How to Stay Safe - Quick Checklist

  • Never share your UPI PIN or OTP with anyone.
  • Always verify the receiver's name before clicking "Pay".
  • Only use the official PhonePe app for support.
  • Keep your app updated to the latest version for better security.

What to do if you are scammed?

If you lose money, act immediately! Contact your bank to block your account and report the fraud on the National Cyber Crime Portal (1930). Speed is key to potentially getting your money back.
