Managing recurring payments can sometimes be confusing. If you use PhonePe to automatically pay for OTT subscriptions, electricity bills, or other services, you might need to stop those payments at some point. This guide explains exactly how to do that.
What is an AutoPay Mandate?
An AutoPay mandate is essentially the digital permission you give to a service provider (like Netflix or a newspaper) to collect money from your account automatically every month. It's like setting a recurring alarm for your money!
Pause vs. Cancel: Which One Do You Need?
- Pause: This is for temporary breaks. If you are going on vacation for two months and don't want to pay for a service during that time, you can pause it (if the merchant allows).
- Cancel: This is for permanent stops. If you no longer use a service at all, you should cancel the mandate completely.
Steps to Cancel Your PhonePe AutoPay
- Open the PhonePe App on your mobile.
- Navigate to the AutoPay or Mandates section in your profile settings.
- Find the specific Merchant you want to stop paying.
- Review the details carefully (Amount, Frequency, etc.).
- Click on the Cancel button and confirm your action.
- Verification: Always check the mandate status afterward to ensure it says "Cancelled."
⚠️ Important Safety Note:
Never share your UPI PIN or OTP with anyone. Also, remember that cancelling a payment mandate on PhonePe may not automatically cancel your subscription with the service provider. You should check both!
