Step 1: Download Eclipse IDE
First, navigate to the official Eclipse download page. Look for the suitable package for your operating system (such as Windows 64-bit). Click the download link and get the package or installer zip file.
Step 2: Extract and Organize Files
Once the download completes:
- Locate the downloaded zip file in your downloads folder.
- Extract the archive into your preferred drive or directory (such as
C:\orD:\). - Keep folder paths short and clean to avoid permission issues later.
Step 3: Set Up Your Workspace
Every Eclipse session needs a workspace—the main folder where all your projects live:
- Open the extracted Eclipse folder and launch the eclipse.exe application.
- When prompted, choose or create a new folder named workspace.
- Click Launch to boot into the Eclipse workbench.
Step 4: Configure the JDK Path
To compile and run Java programs smoothly, verify that Eclipse points to your installed Java Development Kit (JDK):
- Go to Window > Preferences.
- Navigate to Java > Installed JREs.
- Verify or add the directory where your JDK is installed.
- Save your settings and you're ready to start coding!
