If you use PhonePe for your daily payments, you might have noticed that sometimes you can't send more money, even if you have a balance. This is because of Transaction Limits. Let’s break down everything you need to know in simple terms.
1. What are Daily and Monthly Limits?
To keep your money safe, PhonePe and your bank set specific limits:
- Daily Limit: The total amount you can send within 24 hours. Usually, this is up to ₹1 Lakh.
- Monthly Limit: The total amount allowed across the entire month. Once reached, you have to wait for the next month to start.
2. Why Do These Limits Exist?
These rules aren't there to trouble you! They serve three main purposes:
- Security: To prevent huge losses if someone gets unauthorized access to your phone.
- Fraud Prevention: To stop suspicious activity and keep your account safe.
- System Stability: To ensure the banking network (UPI) doesn't get overloaded.
3. Types of Limits You Should Know
It's not just about the total amount. Pay attention to these three factors:
- Per Transaction Limit: The maximum you can send in a single payment (e.g., ₹1 Lakh).
- Transaction Count Limit: The number of times you can send money in a day (usually 10 to 20 times).
- Bank Specific Limits: Every bank (like SBI, HDFC, or ICICI) has its own rules that might be lower than the standard UPI limit.
4. Tips for Large Payments
If you need to pay a large amount that exceeds your daily limit, try these steps:
- Plan Ahead: Split the payment across two or three days.
- Check Your Bank: Contact your bank to see if they can temporarily increase your UPI limit.
- Don't Keep Retrying: If a payment fails because of a limit, stop! Repeatedly trying can sometimes temporarily block your account for security.
