Think of the internet as a massive digital highway system. It is a giant network that connects computers, phones, and tablets from every corner of the world. Just like roads allow cars to travel to different cities, the internet allows data to travel so you can watch videos, chat with friends, and search for information.
How the Internet Works: Step-by-Step
1. Getting Connected
Your journey starts when your device (phone or laptop) connects to the internet via Wi-Fi or mobile data. This connection is provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP), like Jio, BSNL, or Airtel.
2. Making a Request
When you type a website name like www.google.com, your device sends a "request." Websites aren't actually inside your phone; they live on powerful computers called Servers.
3. Finding the Address (DNS)
Computers don't use names; they use numbers called IP Addresses. A DNS (Domain Name System) acts like a phonebook, turning the website name you typed into the correct IP address so your device knows exactly where to go.
4. Data Packets
Once the server is found, it sends the website data back to you. However, it doesn't send it all at once! The data is broken into tiny pieces called Packets. These packets travel through cables and satellites to reach you.
5. The Final Result
Your web browser (like Chrome or Safari) catches all these packets, puts them back together in the right order, and displays the beautiful website on your screen. This all happens in just a few seconds!
