1. What are Write Capacity Units (WCU)?
Think of WCUs as the power needed to save information. One WCU allows you to write 1 KB of data per second. If your data items are larger, you'll need more WCUs to handle the load without slowing down your app.
2. What are Read Capacity Units (RCU)?
RCUs are the power used to retrieve information. One RCU allows you to perform one "Strongly Consistent" read or two "Eventually Consistent" reads for an item up to 4 KB in size. Choosing the right consistency level can save you a lot of money!
3. Provisioned vs. On-Demand
DynamoDB gives you two ways to manage this capacity. Provisioned Mode is like a monthly gym membership where you set your limit in advance. On-Demand Mode is like "pay-as-you-go," which is perfect for apps where you aren't sure how many users will visit.
